Who we are

WHO WE ARE

Materiale Centralen UP!cycling is a Non-Profit Organization and EcoDesign Studio that educates how to look at waste as precious raw material and energy resources.

The main aim is to teach how to minimize the creation of waste by turning trash into treasure, extending the lifespan of old materials making new useful products through a participatory design approach and upcycling techniques.

ONE MAN'S TRASH IS ANOTHER MAN'S TREASURE

What Materiale Centralen UP!cycling believes in is a network of systemic projects,
sharing common values about environmentally and socially sustainable communities in the city of Copenhagen, working together on the creation of a circular economy model where waste is not considered as common useless trash anymore but as precious raw resources still usable, full of potential

OUR LONG STORY SHORT

MC started in 2015 as part of Goldmine, a Copenhagen Municipality´s experiment aim to create a better waste management of the material resources of local ARC Recycling Station of the South Harbour area of the city. As part of the experiment Materiale Centralen role was to link the discarded materials to creative and sustainable projects.

TODAY

Materiale Centralen UP!cycling is an educational platform active in culture houses and maker spaces throughout Copenhagen, aiming to create sustainable communities as a way to tackle global environmental issues.

We evolved the ”DIY” (Do It Yourself) into a ”DIT ”(Do It Together) philosophy, in which we believe that by promoting local community engagement, providing a platform for skill sharing, and utilizing locally sourced waste material, we can create more sustainable communities.

Our holistic approach to sustainability is a methodology we call “The Collaborative Factory”.

GLOBAL GOALS

The UN’s Global Goals aim to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for everyone by 2030.

At Materiale Centralen Up!cycling we make sure all our work helps to achieve these goals.
